Christmas DIY: Decorate a lantern with Chalk markers

Do you want to give a new lease of life to a lantern you have lying about on your patio or just personalise a new one to make it unique? With Chalk markers, it couldn't be easier! So you’ll have a lovely decorative item to display in your home for your end-of-year festivities! Sound good? Follow the steps of the tutorial below.

For this tutorial, you will need the following:

• A lantern

• Chalk markers (here we’ve chosen medium tips in White, Gold and Silver)

• A damp cloth

• Some candles

1^st step: The materials

For this new decorating tutorial, first choose the lantern you want to customise. Take out some Chalk markers: white, gold and silver are colours which work on everything and are festive! The medium 1.8-2.5mm tip will be easy to use on this surface.

You will also need a damp cloth so that you can erase and start again if needed, and some candles for when you’ve finished your personalisation.

2^nd step: Cleaning

For the best results, you’ll need to clean the panes of your lantern with a cloth. It might not be the most fun step, but it’s a must!

3^rd step: The patterns

For the patterns, we’ve chosen symmetric geometric shapes. Colour after colour, after having started the dots, you can draw your lines while maintaining an even spacing between each line.

For this step you’re completely free! If you want to create more complex patterns, you can also stick a pattern to the inside of the lantern and trace it easily on the outside.

4^th step: If some touch ups are needed...

If you’re not completely satisfied with the final result, don't worry, you can erase the lines very easily and redo them with the help of your damp cloth. That’s the advantage of your Chalk markers, on glass, they’re completely erasable!

5^th step: Light!

Warm up the atmosphere by putting one or two candles inside the lantern. We recommend choosing candles of different heights to create lovely volume and nice lighting effects.

You can then put it inside, near the Christmas tree or even on your window sill outside, because Chalk markers are water resistant!

6^th step: A beautiful lantern for Christmas!

And here’s the final result! A personalised lantern perfect to complete your Christmas décor, inside or outside.
