Customise your very own place mats in Autumn tones

If you’re looking for a fun activity to give free reign to your creative side, then look no further!

In this tutorial, we will teach you how to create your very own place mats in Autumn tones. If you already have some, you can recycle them, no need to go and buy new ones! Recycle and re-use, it’s more responsible!

This new tutorial is very practical and requires very little material.

You will need:

  • A fabric place mat

  • An iron

1st Step: What you need

To start with, gather together the stars of this tutorial: Uni Pin felt tips and POSCA markers! Here we will be using the Uni Pin Brush Tips, 0.5mm and 0.8mm, and 5 POSCA markers in Autumnal tones.

You’ll also need a light-coloured fabric place mat and an iron to fix the colours.

2nd Step: Write your name

Using the Uni Pin felt tip (0.8mm tip), first write your name on the fabric place mat. Yes! Uni Pin felt tips don’t only work on paper! Their hard-wearing tip remains intact when used on fabrics.

If it helps, first practice on a sheet of scrap paper.

3rd Step: Draw some doodles

Then using the POSCA markers, draw some Autumnal doodles, perhaps some falling leaves, some wild mushrooms, a pumpkin or some other Autumn veg…

Let your imagination run free and play around with the colours! Thanks to their ease of use, POSCA markers are an ideal tool for beginners to give free reign to their creative side.

4th Step: Add more detail to your doodles

Using a Uni Pin felt tip (0.5mm tip), add some detail to your doodles. Then, trace over the edges, add some finer details and create shading to offer some depth.

5th Step: Iron your design

The final, and very important step is to iron the reverse side of your fabric place mat to fix your design in place along with all of the pretty warming colours.
