Draw a scarecrow with Uni Pin

As you know, Halloween is fast approaching. For the occasion, we’re going to show you how to draw a scarecrow in 8 steps, sketch style!
We’ve been inspired by a character from a Japanese animated film, can you guess which one?
The sketch makes up the basis of the drawing... Identifying the shape, the proportions, the perspectives, the outlines... A creative process which turns out to be effective when you want to improve and find your style. So, if you’d like to try it out, follow the guide!
For this tutorial, you will need:
- A sketchbook
- A premium mechanical pencil
- Uni Pin felt-tip pens
- Our downloadable pattern
1st step: The materials
For a successful sketch, you’ll need the right materials. As we often say, good tools make good workers!
For this tutorial, we recommend the Uni Pin felt-tip pens for clean and precise lines, and a premium mechanical pencil, perfect for sketches or technical drawings. Also, you’ll need a sketchbook as well as our downloadable pattern which will guide you!
2nd step: Sketch the geometric shapes
A sketch is above all starting from a geometric shape to get the stance right, then, bit by bit, adding different parts to it.
So start by drawing the geometric shapes of your drawing with the help of the premium mechanical pencil. This step makes up the base of your sketch. Here, it’s a question of setting up the angles, the curves, the proportions...
The premium mechanical pencil will make this task easier thanks to its excellent handling, allowing you to feel at ease and produce more confident and better quality lines ;)
If you’re not pleased with the result, it has an integrated rubber, so you can easily erase the clumsy lines.
3rd step: Develop the shapes
Still using the premium mechanical pencil, develop the geometric shapes you drew earlier. Start by creating some actual curves, more rounded shapes... Now, your work is slowly starting to take shape.
4th step: Add some details
Add some details to bring your scarecrow to life!
The eyes, the mouth, some accessories... You can take inspiration from a character or let your imagination do its thing.
5th step: Go back over the outline
Then go over the pencil with the Uni Pin felt-tip pens.
They will give you a cleaner drawing and much more precise lines. Its SUPER INK is intense and doesn't go through the paper. Go for it!
6th step: Add some depth
Still using your Uni Pin felt-tip pens, find the shadowy areas and play with the contrasts. Hatch in some areas to create volume and colour some elements. For the filling, we’ve chosen the 0.8mm tip.
You can also, using finer tips, like the 0.3 or 0.2mm tips, go back over the shadows by adding thinner lines.
7th step: Finishing touches...
Finally, your scarecrow is nearly finished, erase the visible pencil lines so only the drawing remains.
Don't worry, the Uni Pin felt-tip ink guarantees a result with no leaking. There’s no risk of ruining the drawing!
8th step: The final result!
Drawing finished! Easier than it seems, isn't it? As this tutorial covers the bases of all sketching, you can think up and draw any shape, you just need to follow the same steps (from geometry to details) and have the same tools ready.
