Create a One Line Drawing zebra

One line drawing is a minimalist drawing created with a single line.
A little while ago we gave you a tutorial to draw a portrait (add link to previous article). Today, we’re going to have fun creating a zebra head with our famous Uni Ball EYE rollerball pens (link to product), which is available in 10 colours. In addition to offering a super smooth and perfectly even writing experience, the intensity of the ink makes it the perfect tool for writing, but also for drawing or colouring.
Want to give it a try? Let’s get started!
Tutorial level: Beginner / Advanced / Expert
1st step: Materials and reference lines
For this tutorial, you will need:
- Uni Ball EYE rollerball pens in one or several colours
- A Uni Shalaku S mechanical pencil and its small integrated rubber
- A sheet of paper
- Our pattern (downloadable pdf here) which you can use before you’re ready to try on your own
2nd step: Lightly sketch the shape with the mechanical pencil
With your Uni Shalaku S mechanical pencil, lightly sketch the contours of the zebra’s head. If you want, place your printable PDF template under your paper to guide you.
3rd step: Fill in the traced shape
Now, with the Uni Ball EYE rollerball pen in your choice of colour, fill in the content of the zebra with a single line, by making loops to come back from one edge of your shape to another.
Go a little further to make the zebra’s ear, with two loops, and then continue to fill in the head of the animal up to the nostrils.
4th step: Erase the sketch
When the ink is dry, with a simple rubber or the little rubber on your Uni Shalaku S mechanical pencil, erase the lines which you used as contours for your zebra head.
5th step: Colour
Now you can colour in the loops created to reproduce the stripes.
Don’t forget to add a little eye to your zebra.
