Here we go on a new design tutorial with our Emott felt tips!

The days are already growing longer and the nights shorter as we arrive towards the end of February, finally! How about a touch of drawing to help us conjure up dreams of the spring? Using Emott felt tips, let’s make way for the magnolia and its magnificent pink flowers which will soon begin to bloom!

If you’re in the mood for spring, then join the tutorial below!

For this tutorial, you will need:

  • A blank sheet of paper or sketch book

Step 1: The material

To make your very own magnolia flower in all its beauty, you do not need much. A sheet of blank paper, a Porte-mines PREMIUM with rubber tip for the sketch, Emott felt tips for colour, and finally the downloadable template!

We have opted for the following colours in our creation : wine red, baby pink, dark yellow, beige and apple green!

Step 2: Trace the outline

Firstly, use your porte-mines PREMIUM and trace the outline of your flower.

To begin designing your magnolia flower, simply start with the rounded shapes, using freehand lines. These will represent the different parts of the flower.

The porte-mines PREMIUM is the ideal tool for this step. Its excellent handling will allow you to trace accurate lines.

Step 3: Sketch your design

For this step, let’s get sketching!

Still using your porte-mines PREMIUM, within your design, draw the petals of your magnolia flower along with its stem.

Step 4: Colour over the sketched lines

For clear lines, take your first Emott felt tip. Here we have opted for a dark shade of pink (we chose Wine Red), and trace over your sketched lines.

This is the ideal partner for this step, whether writing, drawing or tracing!

Step 5: Erase

Using the rubber tip on your porte-mines PREMIUM, rub out the pencil lines so that only the Emott felt tip lines are visible.

Step 6: Add some detail

Still using your Emott felt tips, to create some texture and depth to your design, shade in some sections. Create areas of shade, some lighter sections with a lighter shade of pink, and add some colour to your magnolia flower!

For the flower, we have used shades of Wine Red and Baby Pink. For the stem, beige and dark yellow.

Step 7: The end result!

Now you’ve all finished! Easier than it first seemed, wasn’t it? Whilst awaiting the start of spring, you can chance your hand at designing some more flowers, each in different stages of bloom. How about it?
