How would you describe your work?

Our work is in the areas of surf, Nature and lifestyle. It is detailed graphic work in which we represent objects, icons and flora as realistically as possible. Everything that inspires our daily life in the Basque country and also our travels and encounters. We only work in black and white which means we tend to stress the shadows and light to highlight the volume and texture.

What do you like about the Uni Pin felt-tip pen?

It’s a really complete package, starting with the depth of the black of the ink and the fact that the ink dries very quickly, avoiding smudging if you put your hand on the drawing. The numerous tip sizes means we can create very varied black solid planes. We also really like the glide, weight and balance of this felt-tip pen, we have already tested everything available on the market and this is the one we selected!

When do you use it?

From the blank page stage through to the signing of the work. Our drawings are created 100% with the Uni Pin felt-tip pen. We are often asked how we achieve very light greys with a black felt-tip pen; the answer is simple: lots of patience and finesse.

What surface does it work on best?

We mainly work on Arches Watercolour paper. It is ideal because the paper is very thick with a natural and distinct grain. By skimming the surface with the Uni Pin we can obtain a very light grey and by pressing down more and more the blacks are dark and deep. The only fault of Aquarelle paper is that it drinks a lot of ink and its grain wears the felt-tip, but that is also perfect for us as a used felt tip lets us express other textures.

Which one do you use most?

Our favourite is the 0.03mm as its fine line lets us fully express our panel of tints and shades. It is ideal for the tiniest details and it is also good for dense shading. Overall we use the entire range up to 0.8mm for the large solid planes in our ten square metre drawings!
