Fancy trying a little upcycling?

We’ve all tried a little recycling...but you need to have some good ideas!

In this tutorial, we offer you the chance to recycle your old tins to make wonderful hanging baskets for your garden or balcony. An ideal opportunity to reuse objects from daily life and give them a new life. And so for those who aren’t keen on throwing things away, you’ve come to the right place! Collect your old tins, roll up your sleeves and follow this guide!

For this tutorial, you will need:

  • Old tins
  • Uni Paint permanent markers
  • String
  • A hammer
  • A large nail
  • A pair of scissors

1st step: The materials

For this new tutorial, let’s have a go at upcycling! So get out your old tins and, with next to nothing, transform them into wonderful hanging baskets.

For this, you will need some old tins of any shape and size, Uni Paint permanent oil-based marker pens, some string, a hammer, a large nail, and finally a pair of scissors!

2nd step: Make some small holes

Using the hammer and a large nail (ask an adult for help), begin by making 3 holes in the base of the old tin. These are for drainage, and essential to ensure water runs off.

Then, on the sides, also make 3 evenly-spaced holes, through which to feed the string to hang your future plants!

3rd step: Add a touch of colour

Using the Uni Paint markers, create designs that meet your fancy and add a little colour to your plant pots. If you want to have different shades, simply wait a few minutes: the ink is quick-drying!

This oil- and paint-based marker with unalterable pigments is a stalwart and perfect on metal. Resistant to water, light and extreme temperatures, your customised tins will retain all of their shine, even outdoors.

4th step: Cut for future additions

Simply cut three lengths of string to the size of your choice. Then, tie a knot in one end of each three pieces of string.

5th step: And thread them through...

Once the pieces of string have been threaded through the 3 holes you previously made, you can then tie them together to create the hanging system, and hang your beautiful plant pots wherever you please.
